Course Overview

The world can be a scary place for kids. But what if our cultural obsession with safety is actually keeping kids from cultivating the courage they need to face hard and scary things?

It’s no accident that the words “fear not” are everywhere in the Bible. Following Jesus requires courage! Rather than protecting kids from every scary thing, let’s help kids develop the courage they need to grow faith and friendship with Jesus.

This online children’s ministry training course helps children's and family ministry leaders grapple with the tension between keeping kids safe and equipping kids and their families to boldly cultivate courage in Jesus.

You’ll explore key fears that are prevalent in our culture and ministries, and then discover how Jesus gives courage to move through those fears. You’ll explore practical ways to create a family ministry environment that cultivates courage in Jesus.

Welcome

Charity Kauffman welcomes you as you begin your journey to cultivate courage in kids.

Module 1. Fears We Face

Let’s face itthe world can be a scary place. You’ll identify fears kids face and personal fears you face as a ministry leader. Then you’ll discover how friendship with Jesus changes perspective and gives the courage you need to move through fear.

Module 2. Cultivating Courage From Jesus

Cultivating courage isn’t about tapping into an inner virtue or strength. You can’t do it on your own. You’ll understand how a growing friendship with Jesus helps you, and the kids you serve, cultivate courage.

Module 3. Jesus Speaks Courage

A fixation on safety won’t help kids boldly live their faith. Compare the courageous words Jesus said to his disciples to the fear-driven statements kids often hear, and explore how Jesus cultivates courageous faith in kids today.

Module 4. Cultivating Courageous Physical Environments

If you want to cultivate courage in kids, you first need to create a fearless environment for children’s ministry. You’ll explore what it means to design fearless ministry environments for kids where their friendship with Jesus can grow, and you’ll discover how safety and security policies create fearless ministry opportunities.

Module 5. Cultivating Courageous Social & Intellectual Environments

Discover practical tips for cultivating friendships in your children’s ministry. Plus, find out how courageous intellectual environments welcome “grapply” questions.

Module 6. Fearless Emotional & Spiritual Environments

See how a courageous emotional environment helps kids know and feel God’s love for them. Then you’ll reflect on evidence of God at work in your life and ministry. We can cultivate courage but, as Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 3:7, the actual growing is God’s job. He’s with us!

Module 7. Wrap Up

Equipped with new skills to design a fearless children’s ministry, you’re now ready to cultivate a courageous environment for spiritual growth. And you don’t have to be a super-hero to make it happen. You’re friends with Jesus, the Champion!
