Frequently Asked Questions

On average it will take about 4-5 hours to complete a course. We recommend doing one module a week. That way you can practice what you learn and build your skills each week.

No tests or quizzes. Reciting correct answers on a test does not make you a better leader. All courses will provide exercises and experiences to help you integrate the learning immediately. You’ll reflect, practice, and do the competencies each course will teach.

The course instructors are experienced ministry practitioners. Their background and experience matches their passion for the topic they present.

For now, to buy access to a course you will need a credit card. You can use a personal or church credit card.

We have product support team members who can help you work through issues if they occur.

Group U offers certification in both children’s and youth ministry. Both certifications require that you complete eight courses within a year. Three of the eight courses are foundational leadership courses, and we recommend you begin with these courses. Five of the eight courses are children’s ministry or youth ministry specific courses, depending on your certification path.

Individual – If you take an individual course, the price is $198. If you decide you want to be certified in both children’s and youth ministry, the Easy Payment Plan requires a down payment of $360 and 12 monthly payments of $112, secured with a credit card and charged the 15th of the month.

Many students go directly to their state or accreditation boards and request credit hours for the course work they do through Group U. Typically, the student applies for credit hours through the process the board sets in place. This process usually requires that the student send the board a description of the course they want to take. You can cut and paste those descriptions from the Group U website.

There are no scholarships available currently. We work hard to keep these courses affordable and the Easy Payment Plan is always an option.

A lot of Group U students decide to jump into certification after taking an individual course. If you have taken a course in the certification requirements, we will provide you a discount when you sign up for certification. Give us a call at 1-800-447-1070.

Yes. We understand things happen. Here are the guidelines for canceling your certification:

  1. Submit your request for cancelation via email at GroupU@Group.com or call Group at 1-800-447-1070 within seven days of your purchase.
  2. You must not have completed more than 20 percent of the course content.
  3. All refund requests must be approved by management prior to processing.

As soon as you sign up, you will receive an email inviting you to set up your Group U online course work account. Choose your password and you are off and running.

There are three simple things that you can do at the very beginning to set your learning trajectory from good to great.

  1. Set your plan of attack. Begin by taking the foundational leadership courses: The R.E.A.L. Approach to Spiritual Transformation, The L.I.F.E. Strategy for Recruiting and Equipping Volunteers, and The Power of Relational Ministry Leadership. By taking this approach, you will have a solid framework for your continued learning.
  2. Print out your course notes. By taking this simple step, you will retain more of the content because you will interact with the materials in various ways. This secures a better learning experience for the long run.
  3. Participate in the Facebook community page. There are lots of hands-on experiences that we want you to try out in your ministry, and it is good to share information about those activities with other people in ministry. You can even go through the comment feed and look at the experiences of past students.

(And remember to have a blast and throw confetti when you complete a course!)

Let’s talk! We work with organizations in a variety of ways, including licensing multiple seats for churches who want to train their teams, articulation agreements with accredited higher learning partners, Group U courses within your degree program, and production of online courses for your degree program. If you would like to explore these opportunities, email Jon Vaughan, business director for Group U, at jvaughan@group.com with your name, title, institution, email address, phone number, and what area(s) you would like to learn more about (licensing, articulation, general partnership, content utilization, or course creation). If you would like to speak with Jon, call him at 970-292-4527.
