Traveling Mercies: Some Thoughts on Faith by Anne Lamott. While many have written about their faith journeys, this memoir is a boldly honest and witty encounter with one woman's unusual and often jagged walk of faith. Anne isn't exactly raised in a Christian home and is far from becoming a candidate for "Mother of the Year." She has had a fairly successful life as a novelist, but after the death of her father, her life spins out of control as she delves into deep depression, drug addiction and alcoholism, and a series of train-wreck relationships with men.
Anne describes her Christian growth as it evolves from small sparks of hope during dark times of addiction and loneliness in her youth to moments of exuberant miracles that lead her to understand the strength and love she finds in God.
